Thank you all for always seeing us.
I'm Kawai, Representative Director of ReBoost Co., Ltd.
This time, as the title says, I would like to explain the outline of "What is a COO at startup?"
There is a balance between business model and phase, as well as expertise with founders and other members, but COOs are very utility, with different backgrounds and roles.
On the other hand, because it is a utility, "what kind of problems are there, what should be left to it" and "what kind of human resources to hire" are major points.
It is immediately, but first of all, I think that you can see this figure.
Although it is an article introduced several times in this series, I would like to explain in depth about COO this time with excerpts from there.
Here you can summarize "common perceptions", "requirements for human resources necessary for growing companies", and "more specific results and backgrounds to be sought".
As in that position, there is a need to do various operations around operations, that is, on site, as is the case with "Chief Operating Officer" that is often understood by COO. Since the title is "Person in Charge of Execution", I am responsible for business rather than practice. To elaborate a little more, I'm the chief executive of the executives in terms of "management" and "execution."
* Roles and roles, including employment forms, called directors and executive officers here, will be described separately.
Specifically, how do you take responsibility for business execution, what kind of human resources are suitable, and what kind of background fits?
It also consists of "business model", "phase", and "founder, other management, organizational structure", but it means that "while grasping management issues, we will take on the position necessary for business growth in view of the time axis".
In some cases, some cases require some expertise, especially in the diagram, as the founding period diagram shows, "all other parts so that the founder can set up a vision and concentrate on management", while there are cases where "forming a team as sales, selling yourself, and creating profits", "We will acquire the management resources necessary to draw the future of the company in a corporate plan", " We also take charge of the so-called corporate system like organization creation and back office."
In any case, as shown in the diagram, it is a must that financial statements be read and understood, or at least the PL necessary for business operations can be developed.
From this point of view, as I wrote in the previous series, it is necessary to verbalize what I said, "What problems are there, what do you want to solve, what is the scope of responsibility?" In particular, since there are many cases where it covers a wide range of fields rather than clear expertise such as finance, marketing, and system development, it is also a position where mismatches are likely to occur at the time of recruitment.
On the other hand, there are many cases where human resources with work experience at "foreign consulting companies" and "corporate planning office" are appointed as human resources who can work on such tasks and utilities as necessary, and from a high level from the viewpoint of systematization and management. It is useful in the sense that we are responsible for grasping issues in uncertain and abstract situations, formulating and executing plans for solutions, and in the sense that we have been responsible for projects in various industries.
How did you like it? As the job title says, it is the most widely expected to play various roles according to the situation of the company, but I hope that each company will define "COO that promotes business for the company" and engage in recruitment activities.
- The COO will take on the position necessary for business growth while grasping management issues and taking into view of the time axis.
- Identify issues in uncertain and abstract situations, and formulate and implement plans for solutions
- Define a COO that will drive your business for your company
